| Christine Yano is Associate Professor of Anthropology at
the University of Hawaii. Her 2002 book Tears of Longing: Nostalgia
and the Nation in Japanese Popular Song is published by Harvard
University Asia Center (Harvard University Press). Her current research
interests include: gender, race, and ethnic identity in a Japanese
American beauty pageant in Honolulu, Hawaii; the global flows of the
Japanese cute icon Hello Kitty; and nostalgia and collective memory
surrounding the posthumous fandom of enka diva Misora Hibari.
