A stray dog was hit by a car and was critically injured. He was rescued by a young couple in Kagoshima prefecture, Tsutomu Sakou and his wife Noriko. The aftereffect of the accident has left his hind legs paralyzed. the Sakous tried to find the dog's owner in vain. So they decided to try to make him able to walk by himself again. They made a wheelchair for him. The half paralyzed dog was named Maachan.

Tibbets, who until now had been reluctant to speak to the Japanese media, agreed to talk of his experiences.
