| Eikichi feels that he has caused trouble to everybody,
and leaves the home with the urn containing his wife's ashes. However, with nowhere
else to go, Eikichi visits Isozaki, Kohei' and Natsuko's friend. Natsuko, who is fed up with the children taking sides with Eikichi, visits Isozaki to pour out her complaints about Eikichi. Eikichi hides himself away from Natsuko, and hears all of Natsuko's feelings. The next day, the children trick Eikichi and Natsuko and make them come back home saying Kakeru is ill. The tree children host a barbecue party, and Eikichi has a happy time together with all the family. That same night, Eikichi asks Natsuko to have a beer with him, and apologizes for all the things he did in the past to cause Natsuko to suffer. Natsuko tells Eikichi that in fact the late Kohei had forgiven Eikichi long ago and had planned to build an extension to the house to invite Eikichi to live with them. Eikichi cannot stop his tears. However, the next morning Eikichi leaves their home. He thanks Kohei in front of his grave and tells him that he has decided to live by himself. However, he was brought back home by Subaru, and Natsuko and all the children persuade him to live with them. |
