Forty years ago, Toshiharu Kano revived the old Japanese papermaking techniques handed down in Ohara Village, Aichi Prefecture. He has since devoted himself to the craft. This program features artist Kano as he meets the challenge of the "new-ness" of this old art, using traditional techniques. From collecting raw wood to extracting dyes from plants and soil, Kano does all the work himself.

Takako Koyama is a full-time worker at an advertising agency. 0ne day, her daughter Hanako was hit by a boy at her kindergarten, and Takako decided to send her daughter to an all-girls elementary school. However, getting into a well known Private school was not very easy.
Takako's husband took it lightheartedly, and told Takako that it might be good if they could use their connections with certain People to get Hanako into a Private school. Takako's step-mother was against Takako's idea, and said that children must be broughtup in a natural environment.
However, Takako's mother was willing to help Takako, and told her not to worry about money. A strict education for Hanako began-a cramschool, a private tutor, and special sessions in the summer vacation ......Tuition and gifts to the teachers and others also started to trouble Takako. Takako's mother confronted her step-mother, with whom Takako too, was having problems. Her relationship with her husband became somewhat unpleasant, and she could not concentrate at work either. And after several months of the nightmare, Hanako took an entrance examination for a private elementary school......

This NHK-produced science series of fifteen-minute programs was made for children aged seven and eight and aims at developing their awareness of and sparking their interest in science. Following the activities of the series' host, a young man named Hiko, and his two puppet friends named Pac and Poli, young viewers are introduced to the wonders of the physical and natural worlds through Hiko's simple experiments, the planting of a vegetable garden and the characters' adventures in fields and woods and at the seashore among other activities. Special video segments, many of which use stop - motion filming, enable the viewers to observe the lives of various creatures and the sprouting of seeds among other interesting aspects of nature. Each of the series' programs has an enjoyable story line to catch young viewers' imagination and attention even as they are exposed to the scientific method and develop a basis for a deeper study of science.
