Is Quality Becoming Obsolete ?

With the advent of a "throwaway society," traditional craftsmanship is in danger of dying out. This is true not only of age-old arts, but of relatively recent manufacturing techniques as well. Nowhere is this trend more evident than in the Kojiya district of Tokyo, which was at one time home to more than 1,000 small factories. "High-tech Japan" was largely built by the specialized workers at such factories, but does the modern world still have a place for them?

"Mr. Physics" Makes a Show of Science

As a high school teacher, Denjiro Yonemura firmly believed that the best way to teach physics was by showing principles in action. With this aim, he devised a huge repertoire of demonstrations, including a "human-generated tornado" and a "jumbo bubble" large enough for a person to stand in. Yonemura was invited to show his techniques in the U.S. and to produce a display at Tokyo's Science Museum. He now travels to schools and museums full-time in the role of "Mr. Physics."

La cultura de Batán Grande
La historia del Imperio Inca que floreció en los siglos XV y XVI terminó con la conquista española. Izumi Shimada, un arqueólogo especializado en estudios andinos, ha investigado sobre Batán Grande y su cultura; el cree que esta es la mítica cultura del oro que existió antes de la inca. A partir de junio 1991 se realizó una excavación internacional dirigida por Shimada pero los resultados no fueron positivos. En noviembre de 1991, descubrieron la mayor tumba de oro en la historia de Latinoamérica. La constancia de Shimada había sido recompensada. Hacia el año 1,050 D.C. una sequía de 30 años devastó Sicán. El pueblo perdió la fe en las divinidades y abandonó la tierra.
Estas son las conclusiones de Shimada, que ha decidido continuar las excavaciones por demostrar sus teorías sobre el imperio de Sicán.

Tomoko Moritani's dream of getting married and living happily ever after turns into a nightmare when her fiance loses his own money in the stock market and skips town with her life savings, plus funds drawn on her credit card.
