Like the UNESCO World Heritage listing, the Hokkaido Heritage designation extends beyond cultural assets to include sites of natural splendor, distinctive cultural traditions, special industries and unique lifestyles. The world is realizing that heritages must not be condemned to historical obscurity, but must be rediscovered again and again, and handed down to each succeeding generation.

"Awa Odori" is a traditional dance of Tokushima, known to add color to the summer. It is said that there are over 500 Awa Odori dance groups, called"Rens". Each group is known for its unique dance characteristics. Of these Rens, the "Aho-ren" stands out as one of the top two dance groups. By forming numerous dance formations, and gracefully changing from formation to formation, this Ren's dynamic movements are a definite crowd pleaser.
